It’s hard to believe that we are making plans to wind down our 2019-2020 school year!   We appreciate  the Van Meter School District's  continued support of our program and for giving us a great place to educate your children! We have loved watching your children grow and look forward to sharing their learning during Parent Teacher Conferences March 10-13th.

Chick-Fil-A Fundraiser Night
Thursday, March 12th is our Chick-Fil-A Mills Civic Parkway fundraiser. Mention VMPK when you order between 5-8 pm and Chick-Fil-A will contribute 15% of the proceeds to our preschool. Valid only at the Mills Civic location. All proceeds from this fundraiser benefit our preschool program and help us cover expenses so we can end the year strong.

Reading Center

Our featured center this month is our Reading Center.  Many studies have shown a strong correlation between the amount of books a child has been read with their future academic success. Children in this center are reinforcing their concepts of print, alphabet knowledge, phonemic awareness. They enjoy reading stories we have shared as a class and practicing predictable text on their own. Kids have been loving listening to Green Eggs and Ham in our Reading Center the last week!

Library Books
Our Library Check Out Day is Wednesday. If your child did not bring home a book, that means that they already have one checked out and need to turn it back in.

Friday, May 8th is our Annual Outdoor Fun Day

Each year, our preschool hosts our Outdoor Fun Day at Trindle Park!  This is a day where both classes may attend.

We will begin our day as usual at 8:15 and go until 11:05.  We will have a visit from the Blank Park Zoo, outdoor games and lots of fun.  If you are interested in helping us with this event, please let us know. It takes lots of volunteers to make this a great day for our kids!

Fundraising Volunteer Hours
As a reminder, you may either pay the program development fee of $60 or fulfill the 2 hour volunteer requirement if you have not already done so. The last two opportunities to volunteer are serving ice cream April 23rd at the 4th grade music concert or helping at the VMEPC (Van Meter Elementary Parent's Committee) Elementary Carnival on Saturday, April 25th.  If you need to volunteer, you may sign up on the following link.

The VMEPC uses the proceeds from the carnival to finance many important projects throughout the Elementary.  They are also gracious enough to pay for the bus which transports our 4/5 PreK Class to Howell's Pumpkin Patch each fall.  We appreciate their generosity!

Parent Teacher Conferences
We look forward to sharing your child's learning and portfolio with you March 10-March 13. We are so proud of how much the children have grown this school year!
